Trademark Registration in Jordan: Requirements and Procedure

Trademark registration requirements in Jordan

- Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Jordanian Consulate.
- Design of the trademark in JPEG format in case of a graphical trademark (not required for word mark).
- The detaliation of goods and/or services for witch the trademark will be registered or the classes in case they are known. Jordan follows the International Classification Nice 7th Edition (i.e. classes from 1 to 42). If the lists of goods/services exceeds ten items, additional fee of 35 $ it will have to be paid. International the Registrar has decided that the services of wholesale and retail sales must be registered under class 42 instead of class 35 according to the Nice 8th Edition. The system is of single-class filing.
- Details of the trademark owner (name, address, registration number.
- Transliteration of the mark.
- Invoicing details (name, address, fiscal number, registration number).
- Information related to the previously filed trademarks, in order to benefit of the priority date, if it is the case. In case that priority is claimed, the certified copy of the priority document will be filed simultaneously with the application.

Trademark registration procedure in Jordan:

The mark is published after the acceptance in the Official Gazette. The opposition period is within 3 months following publication. The registration procedure lasts 12 months. The protection lasts 10 years from the filing date.

Trademark renewal in Jordan: The trademark renewal may be done within 3 months before expiry with a grace period of 12 months for late renewal and additional 12 months for restoration of the mark. After trademark renewal the protection lasts 10 years,
