A trademark in this country may be registered through one of the 3 available systems of trademark registration:

1. National trademarks may be registered through the State Trademark Office.
2. Community trademarks may be registered through O.H.I.M. system.
3. International trademarks may be registered through W.I.P.O. system.

Trademark Registration in France: Requirements and Procedure

Trademark registration requirements in France:

- Power of attorney simply signed and stamped.
- Design of the trademark in JPEG format in case of a graphical trademark (not required for word mark).
- The detaliation of goods and/or services for witch the trademark will be registered or the classes in case they are known.
- Details of the trademark owner (name, address, registration number).
- Invoicing details (name, address, fiscal number, registration number).
- Information related to the previously filed trademarks, in order to benefit of the priority date, if it is the case. In case that priority is claimed, the certified copy of the priority document will be filed simultaneously with the application.

Trademark registration procedure in France: 

Within 6 weeks after the approval in preliminary examination the trademark is published in the France Official Gazette. The opposition period is within 2 months following publication. The registration procedure lasts 6 months. The protection lasts 10 years from the filing date. 

Other trademark procedures in France:

Trademark renewal in France: The trademark renewal may be done within 6 months before expiry. For the trademark renewal we need the power of attorney simply signed. After trademark renewal the protection lasts 10 years.
Trademark changes in France: For changing the name or the address we need the power of attorney simply signed, the official document certifying change of name such as extract..
Trademark assignment in France: For the trademark assignment we need the power of attorney signed by either party, the assignment documents signed by both parties, the transfer tax is payable if the applicant is French, otherwise VAT tax is payable. Trademark assignment in France may be done with or without Goodwill. Pending application may be assigned, well-known unregistered marks may be assigned.
Trademark use in France: Non-use for 5 years following application makes the trademark registration vulnerable to cancellation upon request of a third party.
