A trademark in this country may be registered through one of the 3 available systems of trademark registration:

1. National trademarks may be registered through the State Trademark Office.
2. Community trademarks may be registered through O.H.I.M. system.
3. International trademarks may be registered through W.I.P.O. system.


Trademark Registration in Cyprus: Requirements and Procedure

Trademark registration requirements in Cyprus:

- Power of attorney simply signed and stamped.
- Design of the trademark in JPEG format in case of a graphical trademark (not required for word mark).
- The detaliation of goods and/or services for witch the trademark will be registered or the classes in case they are known.
- Details of the trademark owner (name, address, registration number).
- Invoicing details (name, address, fiscal number, registration number).
- Information related to the previously filed trademarks, in order to benefit of the priority date, if it is the case. In case that priority is claimed, the certified copy of the priority document will be filed simultaneously with the application.

Trademark registration procedure in Cyprus:

The opposition period is within 2 month following publication. The registration procedure lasts 2 years. The protection lasts 7 years from the filing date.

Other trademark procedures in Cyprus: 

Trademark renewal in Cyprus: The trademark renewal may be done before expiry. For the trademark renewal we need the power of attorney simply signed and stamped. After trademark renewal the protection lasts 14 years.
Trademark changes in Cyprus: For changing the name or the address we need the power of attorney signed under new name and the official document certifying change of name.
Trademark assignment and trademark license in Cyprus: For the trademark assignment we need the power of attorney signed by the assignee, the assignment document signed by both parties under hand and notarized. Trademark assignment and trademark license in Cyprus may be done with or without Goodwill. Pending Applications may not be assigned. Unregistered marks may be assigned.
Trademark use in Cyprus: Non-use for a period of 5 years makes a registration vulnerable to cancellation. It is possible to file an intent-to-use application in Cyprus.
