Trademarks Act 2003 (Act No. 4 of March 3, 1961, as last amended by Act No. 15 of May 1, 2003)

Trademark Regulations 1996. This is a translation of the Regulations to the Norwegian Trademarks Act. Should there be any differences between this translation and the authentic Norwegian text, the decision will be made on the basis of the authentic Norwegian text.

Amendments relating to the Industrial Property Acts (Patents Act and Regulations, the Trade Marks Act and Regulations, and the Designs Regulations), effective as from 1 January 1996.

International legislation

Norway is a part of  WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) treaties, as fallows:
- WIPO Convention, since June 1974.
- Paris Convention (Industrial Property), since July 1885.
- Madrid Protocol (International Registration of Marks), since March 1996.
- Nice Agreement (International Classification of Goods and Services), since July 1961.

As a part of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Norway is Member and Signatory to TRIPS Agreement, since January 1995.

Membership of other bodies/treaties: UCC, UPOV.
- Member of UCC since October 1962.
- Member of UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants) since September 1993.
